- Protecting the Interior: The very first thing I do is lay down heavy protective drop cloths over your leather seats, armrests, and center console. I tape off the exterior door frame to prevent any accidental scratches while I work.
- Panel Removal & Glass Vacuuming: I carefully pop the wood trim and back out the hidden fasteners to pull the interior door panel without snapping a single plastic clip. Once inside, I get my shop vac deep into the bottom of the door cavity. I pull out every single shard of broken glass. If you leave even a tiny piece down there, it will rattle every time you hit a bump.
- Surface Cleaning: I wipe down the rubber run channels and the window regulator tracks. Any old grease, dirt, or glass dust gets cleaned out completely so the new window glides easily.
- Primer and Adhesive Installation: On certain replacement glasses, the lower mounting brackets need to be bonded directly to the pane. When that happens, I apply a specialized glass primer and use a high-quality adhesive to secure the new door glass to those regulator brackets. I let it cure properly so the glass won't shift or bind when you roll it down.
- Testing and Reassembly: I slide the new glass into the tracks, bolt everything tight, and run the power window switch. I make sure the auto-up function works and the glass seals tight against the weatherstripping. Finally, I reseal the moisture barrier and snap the door panel back into place.
