If you see chewed insulation or exposed copper touching the chassis, you have found your short. Repair the wire with automotive-grade heat shrink and electrical tape.

2. Test the Heated Windshield Relay

Find the fuse box under the hood. Pull the relay for the heated windshield and test it with your multimeter. Sometimes, the internal contacts weld themselves shut, sending constant power to the circuit. If it fails the continuity test, swap in a new relay.

3. Ohm Test the Windshield Grid

Disconnect the main power plug from the windshield itself. Set your multimeter to Ohms and probe the terminals on the glass side. You should see a low resistance reading, usually between 1 and 4 Ohms depending on the make. If you get a reading of zero, or if there is continuity between the positive terminal and the vehicle body, the heating grid inside the glass is shorted.
