Windshield Replacement for Mack RD Series (1977-2008)

If you drive a Mack RD from the 1977 to 2008 lineup, you already know you are sitting in a piece of heavy-duty history. These trucks were built to haul dirt, mix concrete, and log miles on some of the roughest roads in Canada. Whether you are hauling gravel out of a pit in Ontario or running heavy equipment across town, flying rocks are just part of the job. Spending decades on job sites means your windshield takes an absolute beating. I've pulled countless cracked, pitted, and shattered panes out of these classic cabs, and let me tell you, swapping glass on an RD requires a specific touch.

Dealing with Old-School Rubber Gaskets

Unlike modern trucks where the glass is glued right to the frame with urethane, the older Mack RD models rely on a thick rubber weatherstrip gasket and a locking bead. Over time, especially with our freezing Canadian winters and baking summers, that rubber gets hard, shrinks, and cracks.

What Happens When the Seal Fails?

When that rubber degrades, it stops holding the glass tight. You get annoying wind noise, rattling over bumps, and worst of all, water creeping into the cab and soaking your dash.

Watch Out for Cab Rust

Water damage is a big deal on these older rigs. It doesn't just ruin your interior; it attacks the metal framing holding the windshield in place.

The Pinch Weld Threat

Once water gets past a rotted gasket, it sits right on the metal pinch weld. If we pull your broken windshield and find rust scaling up the metal frame, we have to wire-brush and treat it before new glass goes in. Otherwise, your new windshield will leak on day one, and the rust will just keep eating through the cab.

Our Mack RD Glass Replacement Process

The flat, split-pane design on the early RD models makes them somewhat easier to handle than massive modern curved windshields, but you still need to align them perfectly. A sloppy install means the glass will stress-crack the second you hit a pothole fully loaded. Here is how we get your rig back to work:
