Smashed Door Glass on Your International HV Series? Let's Fix It
When you're running an International HV Series, downtime costs money. If a rogue rock or a worksite accident just took out your side window, you need it fixed right and fixed fast. I've spent years turning wrenches and replacing glass on heavy-duty rigs, specifically the 2016 to 2025 models. Replacing the door glass on a commercial truck isn't a quick job you do in your driveway with basic hand tools. It takes experience and a solid understanding of how these heavy-duty door panels are put together.
What Makes the 2016-2025 HV Series Different?
These trucks are built for abuse. That means the door components, from the interior trim to the window regulators, are heavy and bolted down tight. When the tempered door glass breaks, it doesn't just crack like a windshield—it explodes. Thousands of tiny glass cubes drop straight down into the door cavity, and that is where the real work begins.
The Hidden Danger: Leftover Glass
If a tech just slaps a new window in without doing the dirty work, you're going to have problems down the road. Those little glass chunks get jammed in the window tracks and the regulator gears. Give it a few weeks, and your window will start grinding, binding, or refuse to roll up at all. We spend the extra time with an industrial shop vacuum making sure the inside of that door is completely bare before the new glass ever touches the truck.
Our Hands-On Replacement Process
Here is exactly how we handle an International HV door glass replacement to make sure it functions perfectly:
Phase 1: Teardown and Cleanup
A quick note on retaining clips:
HV series door panels use heavy-duty fasteners. We use specialized pry tools to carefully strip down the armrests, switch panels, and interior door cards so we don't snap the plastic mounts. Once the panel is off, we clear out every single piece of broken glass from the weatherstripping and the bottom of the door shell.
Phase 2: Track and Regulator Prep
We inspect the lifting mechanism. Sometimes the impact that broke the window also bends the regulator sash. If the tracks are warped or the motor is struggling, we'll let you know exactly what needs fixing before we proceed.
Phase 3: Precision Glass Installation
We drop the new OEM-quality glass into the tracks, bolt it securely to the regulator, and test the alignment. The glass needs to roll up smoothly without catching on the rubber guides.
Sealing Out Canadian Winters
Driving a commercial truck across Canada means dealing with brutal weather. If the weatherstripping isn't seated perfectly against the new glass, you'll get freezing drafts and water leaks inside the cab. We make sure the seals are tight so your cab stays warm and dry on those long Ontario runs.
