Replacing the Sunroof on a 2013-2018 Ferrari LaFerrari & Aperta
Working on a Ferrari LaFerrari or its open-top Aperta variant isn't your average glass job. When a customer calls me about a cracked or shattered roof panel on one of these 2013-2018 hybrid hypercars, I know exactly what's at stake. You are dealing with a multi-million dollar carbon-fiber masterpiece. There is zero margin for error. You can't just muscle the glass out and slap a new piece in.
At AlexWindshield, we approach this specific replacement with the exact same standard the factory used in Maranello. Whether it's a stress crack from a track day or an impact fracture, getting the old glass out and the new one in requires absolute precision.
How We Handle the Replacement
Here is exactly how my team and I handle a LaFerrari sunroof replacement to make sure the structural integrity and the finish stay perfect.
Preparation and Glass Removal
- Interior Protection: First things first, we protect the cabin. I cover the entire interior—especially the bespoke Alcantara, leather seats, and carbon fiber dash—with heavy-duty protective blankets and masking tape. Glass shards and old adhesive have no business getting inside this car.
- Safe Removal: I use a specialized cold-knife and wire-cutting system to slice through the factory urethane. We take our time here. Rushing means risking damage to the carbon tub or the surrounding painted roof structure.
Cleaning, Primer, and Installation
- Surface Cleaning: Once the old panel is out, I trim back the old adhesive. You need a completely flat, clean surface. I strip it down to a paper-thin base layer and use industrial-grade prep solvents to wipe away any grease or dirt.
- Primer Application: Bare spots or exposed frame sections get a coat of OEM-grade glass primer. On a LaFerrari, this ensures the chemical bond between the carbon frame and the new urethane is unbreakable.
- High-Quality Adhesive & Setting: We lay down a thick, even bead of high-modulus, fast-curing urethane. Then, using suction cups and a two-man team, we carefully drop the new sunroof into place. We check the flushness against the roofline with a micrometer to eliminate wind noise.
Mobile Service Across the GTA
I know most LaFerrari owners aren't looking to drive a car with a compromised roof across town. You don't have to. We run fully equipped mobile auto glass units throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). If your car is sitting safely in a climate-controlled garage in Vaughan, Richmond Hill, or Markham, my team comes directly to you to do the work on-site.
