Windshield Replacement for the 1996-2000 Aston Martin V8 Coupe & Volante
Getting your hands on a 1996-2000 Aston Martin V8 Coupe or Volante is a treat, but replacing the glass on these hand-built British classics takes serious finesse. You can't just hack out the old glass and slap a new one in. The tolerances are tight, the trim is rare, and the curves of that windshield need to sit exactly right to prevent wind noise and leaks.
Finding the right glass for a late 90s Aston Martin is half the battle, but installing it correctly is what actually matters. The original weather seals and moldings on the V8 Coupe and the convertible Volante are incredibly hard to source. If a technician rushes the job, they can easily bend or tear the trim. I always take my time to carefully extract the original moldings so they can be reused perfectly.
How We Handle the Glass Swap
When I roll up to work on your Aston, I treat it like my own. Here is exactly how we tackle the windshield replacement:
- Protecting the Interior: First things first, we cover up those Connolly leather seats, the steering wheel, and the dash. Drops of primer or urethane are a nightmare to get out, so we prep the cabin heavily before any actual work begins.
- Careful Removal: We use specialized wire cutting tools to slice through the old urethane. Prying against the frame is out of the question—we preserve every inch of the factory paint and protect that hard-to-find trim.
- Surface Cleaning: Once the broken glass is out, I shave down the old adhesive bead to about a millimeter. We then clean the pinch weld thoroughly to remove any dirt, dust, or grease that managed to sneak under the old seal.
- Primer Application: Bare metal spots get a coat of bare-metal primer. This stops rust from forming down the road and gives the new glue something solid to bite into.
- High-Quality Adhesive: We lay down a thick, consistent V-bead of premium, fast-curing urethane adhesive. Then, we carefully set the new windshield into place, ensuring the gaps are perfectly even all the way around. We let it cure properly so the structural integrity of the cabin is fully restored.
