Aston Martin Rapide Quarter Glass Replacement (2010-2020)
Working on an Aston Martin Rapide isn't your everyday auto glass job. Whether you drive the standard Rapide, the upgraded S, or the track-focused AMR, that rear quarter glass sits incredibly flush against the aluminum bodywork. When a rock hits it or someone breaks in, you need a technician who actually knows how to handle high-end British engineering. One slip with a tool, and you are looking at expensive paint damage or ruined interior trim.
How We Replace the Quarter Glass on Your Rapide
I have spent years working on luxury vehicles, and I treat every Rapide like it belongs in my own garage. Getting the quarter glass right requires patience, the right tools, and a strict, careful process.
Our Step-by-Step Installation Process
- Interior Protection: The very first thing I do is tape off the surrounding exterior panels. Inside, I lay down heavy drop cloths to protect that hand-stitched leather. Broken glass splinters get everywhere, so I run a high-powered shop vac to clean out the cabin, the seat crevices, and the panel cavities before I even start pulling parts.
- Safe Removal: The quarter glass on the 2010-2020 models is tightly bonded to the frame. Instead of prying at it, I use a specialized wire cutting system. This lets me slice right through the old factory urethane from the inside out, putting zero stress on the aluminum C-pillar.
- Surface Cleaning: Once the broken pane is out of the way, I carefully scrape the old adhesive down to a thin, even base layer. I clean the pinch weld completely with specialized solvents to ensure no dirt, glass dust, or grease is left behind.
- Primer and Adhesive Application: Any bare metal spots on the pinch weld get a coat of glass primer to prevent corrosion down the road. After the primer flashes off, I lay down a thick, consistent bead of premium, fast-curing urethane adhesive.
- Setting the Glass: Finally, I set the new quarter glass into the frame. I double-check the depth and gaps so it aligns perfectly with the rear doors and the roofline, pressing it firmly into the urethane for a factory-tight seal.
