Getting the Door Panel Off
First things first, we have to strip the interior door card to access the damage.
- Pop off the grab handle covers and remove the heavy-duty Torx screws holding the handle in place.
- Carefully pry out the window switch panel. Do not yank it—the wiring harnesses on older Freightliners get brittle in our freezing Canadian winters.
- Remove the perimeter screws and lift the door card up and out of the window channel.
Clearing the Debris and Prepping the Track
Grab a powerful shop vacuum and get the nozzle right down into the bottom of the door shell. I always run a flathead screwdriver wrapped in a rag along the rubber run channel to dislodge hidden shards. Do not skip this step. A single piece of tempered glass left behind will scratch your brand new window the second you roll it down.
Dropping in the New Glass
Maneuvering the new Freightliner Coronado door glass into place takes a bit of finesse. You have to tilt it forward, slide the front edge into the channel, and slowly level it out as it drops onto the regulator sash clips. Tighten the mounting bolts down, but do not overtighten them—you will crack the glass before you even hit the road. Plug the switch back in and test the up-and-down motion completely before you snap the door panel back together.
